Daniel Grioli – I am a senior investment professional based in Melbourne Australia.

My blog is based on the investment knowledge and experience that I’ve gained through years of reading, study and on-the-job experience.

Honestly, I’ve been very lucky. During my career, several talented and successful investors have taken me under their wing.  They have taught me, encouraged me and in some cases been brave enough to give me a young man with big ideas a break. I’ve also had the privilege of working with some amazing people who have also helped me tremendously in my career as an investor.

I owe many of the ideas and much of the inspiration behind this blog to my mentors colleagues and friends. Thank you.

There are many “hedgehogs” in the financial markets intelligent people who have spent their careers acquiring a great deal of experience in a particular area of investment or finance. Like hedgehogs they’ve dug down deeply or specialized in one area. But specialization doesn’t always help when it comes to investing. Why is that? Because investing requires us to form expectations about the future.

Don’t get me wrong, specialist knowledge is important but on its own it’s not enough. Nobody can specialize in the future because it hasn’t happened yet. The future is a mystery. To solve a mystery we need to gather clues and connect them together to form a picture of what might happen. If we only focus on a single area, we risk missing some important clues.

A “fox” on the other hand is a generalist someone with skills and experience across a wide range of areas; someone that can connect all of the different clues together. If the history of financial markets has taught us anything, it’s that we need more foxes crafty investors that have learnt a few tricks in order to survive.

My blog – Marketfox – is my way of sharing what I think are some of these tricks. I hope that you enjoy reading my blog.
